With over fifteen years of experience as a voice teacher and music director, Ashten brings a wealth of experience and specialized knowledge to her students. Holding a BA in Music from California State University, Bakersfield, and a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the prestigious San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Ashten is dedicated to nurturing talent and fostering musical excellence.
Specializing in pop and musical theater vocal instruction, Ashten stands out for her personalized, science based, one-on-one coaching approach. As the former Resident Director of Music for The Spotlight Theater in Bakersfield, she oversaw all mainstage productions and managed The Spotlight School of the Arts. Her students have graced prominent Bay Area events like Hardly Strictly Bluegrass and performed at renowned venues such as The Independent in San Francisco.
Ashten remains at the forefront of voice science research, ensuring her teaching methods are backed by the latest developments in the field. Her professional journey has taken her across the United States and Italy, where she performed alongside acclaimed artists like Sir Thomas Allen, Graham Johnson, and Susanne Mentzer. Notably, she was the featured vocalist for the premiere of Ted Hearne’s Katrina Ballads, sharing the stage with author, scholar and activist Angela Davis.
Currently based in Spokane, Washington, Ashten is passionate about helping aspiring singers discover their true voice and achieve their musical dreams.
